"I Wish"

Trooper Bret R. Clodfelter

IN MEMORIAM:

Trooper Bret R. Clodfelter
(07 Sep 1958 - 30 Sep 1992)

I wish the killer of my son had to explain to his sobbing 11-year-old daughter, holding his picture and calling to her daddy, why he killed her daddy.

I wish the killer of my son had to explain to his 9-year-old son, so numb with grief that he can't react, why he killed his daddy.

I wish the killer of my son had to explain to a new wife of only 30 days, why he destroyed her husband and changed her life forever.

I wish the killer of my son had to explain to his mother and me why he killed our son with the same feelings as blowing out a candle.

I wish the killer of my son had to explain to the people he helped protect in this community why he took the life of one of those who stand between the life we enjoy and anarchy.

He can't explain it to God.

Note: A year after Bret's death his wife René, unable to overcome her great grief, chose to end her life. She was in law enforcement as well.
