"Silver Star on His Chest"

Dedicated to my husband, Mark, the law enforcement officers of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin., and all who serve.

Anyone who's known a man that wears a star on his chest,
Understands that he's patrolling so all can rest.

Working during bad weather, holidays and weekends.
Riding throughout the county without commends.

Long hours, meager pay; he is a person just like you.
Except for the courageous job he's sworn to do.

The things he sees each day; he has a family of his own.
More than most, he's thankful to near home.

Each day he puts on his uniform, vest and gun,
All too aware this could be his last one.

It's anyone's guess, this may be his time to die.
All could happen in a blink of an eye.

For you, he would gladly be destined to eternal rest.
For you, he wears a Silver Star on his chest.

He took an oath to serve and protect.
What he deserves is the people's respect.
