"They Can't Say"

We all live and die,
but how many can say they give their all?
Many people look and frown at you,
others just pretend you don't exist.

Others cuss at you and call you names;
yet, you never say a word.
Silent, and pretend you don't hear,
but when they are in need, who is it they call?

They call you, the ones, they ignore.
How many have complained over a ticket?
How many drug dealers have you put away?
to make their kids a little safer.

And what about the murders?
How many of them are doing time?
All because you cared enough,
to hunt them down.

To make it safe for us,
to close our eyes and sleep at night.
How many nightmares do you have,
which wake you in the night?

How many haunted dreams and memories plague you?
We all live and die.
But they can't say,
they give their all.

They can't say they are as brave as you.
You give all you have to give,
and sometimes more.
