"The Call"

This poem is dedicated to Troopers
throughout the United States.

"Courtesy, Efficiency, Service"

Driving down the interstate,
on a dark and stormy night.
Trying to keep,
the citizens doing right.

A call comes out,
over the radio.
A Trooper is down,
so all the cars go.

Driving down the road,
with the flashing blue lights.
Hurrying to get there,
Hoping he is all right.

All the cars arrive,
how can people be so mean?
A Trooper was shot,
and not a person to be seen.

The ambulance was coming,
and when it arrived.
The E.M.T. who helped,
could not believe his eyes.

He dropped to his knees,
and began to cry.
There was not a pulse,
everyone hoped it was a lie.

The killer was found,
and pled to manslaughter.
But that does not help,
the Trooper's wife and his daughter.

A Trooper is killed,
on a dark and stormy night.
Trying to keep,
the citizens doing right.
